Pastoral House System

Tupton Hall School is an inclusive school where every student is valued equally regardless of their ability, need or interest.  For each student to achieve their academic potential the school must also support their personal development.  To do this we have developed systems to support their academic, social and personal needs.

Students are organised into vertical tutor groups. This means that each tutor group is made up of a small number of students from each year group from Years 7 to 11. Each day vertical tutor groups meet for 25 minutes. This is called Challenge Time and is spent with their tutor. The tutor should be the first point of contact for students or parents who have any concerns.

Each vertical tutor group belongs to one of our 5 houses – Cavendish, Gladwin, Hunloke, Kenning and Turbutt. Each house has a Head and Deputy Head of House who lead the team of tutors. All staff in the house work together to build an ethos of aspiration and support, further preparing students for their futures.

Tutors deliver a range of activities daily in Challenge Time, which aim to develop students personally, socially, morally and help them to prepare for their role as citizens in the future.  This time is also used for inter-house competitions and enrichment activities.

Non-teaching pastoral support staff are available throughout the day to deal with any worries or problems that students or parents may experience when teaching staff may not be available.
