Young photographers capture pandemic

Students were tasked to take a photo that visually summarised the COVID pandemic, from their own perspective - and the results were incredible!

Images came pouring in ahead of the deadline, reflecting the experiences of young people across our community during what has been an extremely difficult time.

Their photographs captured everything from hobbies, home baking and lockdown walks to face masks, social distancing and the NHS.

Art teacher Mrs Phipps who launched the competition said she was 'overjoyed' with the response to the competition. "We had so many submissions that we didn't have space to display them all," she said.

The 5 winners, as chosen by a judging panel of Year 13 Photography A Level students, were: 

1. Face with Mask and Rainbow by Grace (Year 10, Hunloke House)

2. Dying Rose by Charlotte (Year 11, Cavendish House)

3. Mask on Ground by Phoebe (Year 7, Kenning House)

Judges' comments: 'superb photographic composition'

4. Window View by Chloe (Year 7, Cavendish House) 

Judges' comments: 'image speaks volumes about lockdown and the blurred framing of the window gives quality foreground to the view ahead'

5. Night Portrait by Emilie (Year 7, Turbutt House)

Judges' comments: 'clever use of light movement'
