High achieving Year 8 students from Tupton Hall School were chosen to spend a day in Clay Cross, based at the town library.
The aim of the day was to further their skills in humanities subjects - geography, history, religious education and leisure and tourism.
Students spent the morning on a walking tour of Clay Cross studying the heritage of the town. They also surveyed local people and businesses about the impacts the opening of Tesco has had.
Students then worked in the library conducting secondary research to produce a presentation about the past, present and future of Clay Cross.
Mrs Mottram, head of geography, said: "The students' behaviour was impeccable. They commented that they enjoyed the walking tour, questioning local people and businesses, as well as working as a team."
