Eight talented writers and performers pitted their poetry reading skills in front of a packed hall full of students and staff.
The Year 7s were finalists in the annual Tupton Hall Poetry Performance Competition hosted by former Tupton Hall English teacher Mr Hudson.
Most of the students had written their own poems and performed them with clarity, confidence and character.
They had honed their skills earlier that day in a workshop with professional poet Ash Dickinson who also recited some of his own work to the attentive audience.
Entertainment intervals were also provided courtesy of Year 8 musician Apsley who sang Beatles and Oasis covers. Miss Pashley and Mr Pateman also performed favourite poems 'The Lesson' by Roger McGough and 'Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll.
The judging panel, made up of staff and governors, agreed that the following three poets stood out for their originality and energatic delivery:
Evie with 'Baby Brother'
James with 'The First Day of School'
Ellie-May with 'Shattered Dreams and Scattered Flowers'
The winner of the Student Choice Award was Gabby with 'My Honest Poem'.
